Shea's Castle Notecard

In 1924 Richard Shea, a developer from New York, moved to the dry California climate in hopes of helping his wife, Ellen, with her health. It took him two years to build this castle on its 1,500 acre parcel west of Lancaster, CA and south of the Antelope Valley Poppy Reserve. In the 1929 stock market crash, Shea went bankrupt and later died penniless. Time has certainly taught us that life has its ups and downs.
